Kitchen Countertop Can Charge Phones Wirelessly

DuPont Building Innovations will begin to integrate wireless charging technology into its Corian household surfaces, perfect for home decor and for public spaces.

Chemical giant Dupont Building Innovations and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) have joined forces to create a tabletop that will embed wireless charging into its surface.

DuPont Corian solid surface is on its way to world domination, the synthetic alternative granite-like material that can be found in kitchen counters, lamps, exterior cladding of buildings, and installed everywhere meeting rooms to hospitals and research labs. The alliance sees the solid surface combined with PMA wireless charging technology, allowing consumers to charge their phone simply by placing it on their Corian countertop. One possible rendering shows the PMA-approved Duracell powermat technology charging on the countertop. Says Ron Resnick, president of PMA:
