Artist Faig Ahmed distorts the weave of handmade carpets to rethink the historical medium.

Mixed media artist Faig Ahmed takes traditional Azerbaijani rug designs and distorts and reinterprets them as contemporary pieces of art. His handmade carpets are imagined in innovative forms, including the appearance of being pixelated and also of dripping across a floor.

Ahmed explains, ‘carpet is the icon of Eastern tradition, it's canonical and has visual boundaries. My art is directed towards transforming these boundaries beyond any recognition.'
