Peter Bristol’s Cut Chair looks unstable but can support a person’s weight thanks to a metal plate anchoring it under a piece of carpet.

Designer Peter Bristol works as creative director at Seattle-based product development consultancy Carbon Design Group and also collaborates with design focused partners to create furniture, lighting and other goods. His ‘Cut Chair' appears to have been sliced apart, with only one of its four legs looking intact.

Although it seems unstable and unsafe to sit on, it stands without toppling over and can support a person's weight thanks to a hidden metal plate anchoring it under a piece of thick carpet. The unique piece of furniture provides a place to sit but creates an optical illusion that tells you otherwise.
