Designer Mette Karina Johansen‘s writing desk ‘Pet’ has a lid made of stretched leather, which grows and shrinks around the items stored inside it. As the leather has the ability to expand, the desk can fit more items and the owner can influence and shape the product over time.

Foldable Desk Expands When Items Are Placed Inside [Pics]

Johansen writes that ‘Pet’ starts out as an “anonymous” piece of furniture that will eventually become more personal with continued use. The desk on a tall stand features a flat surface for writing and pockets for pens, notes and other items.

The owner can change how the surface bumps up by placing selected objects in different locations and seeing how the leather stretches over them. Click through to see pictures of the writing desk:
