Grey Group China created a large-scale art installation for Nature University to raise awareness of the disappearing lakes and wetlands in the country. ‘The Lost Lakes‘ featured lake-shaped mirrors of different sizes installed around Beijing.

Designboom reports that China’s urbanization efforts has caused more than 240 lakes to disappear from the country over the last 40 years. The lake-shaped mirrors helped to raise the profile of this issue and get people living in the city to appreciate the beauty of lakes and play an active role in defending them.

Mirrors can reflect people, animals and other objects, and the clear mirrors represent the pure and beautiful lakes which are disappearing from the natural environment. Click through to see pictures of the installation by Grey Group China:
