Audi Designs Futuristic Car For Ender’s Game Movie [Pics]
Upcoming sci-fi movie will feature the Audi designed Fleet Shuttle Quatro created specifically to the requirements of the world in the movie.
Getting a car ‘cast’ in a feature film continues to be a way automakers look to preview or market new vehicles. For the first time, Audi has created a purely virtual model of a futuristic sedan called the Fleet Shuttle Quattro for the sci-fi film ‘Ender’s Game.’ Audi design staff collaborated with the films’ director Gavin Hood to make sure the look and technological level of the car was appropriate for the time the story takes place.
“Designing the Audi Fleet Shuttle Quattro was comparable to tailoring a made-to-measure suit,” said Frank Rimili, Chief Designer for the film project. “We adapted it to the requirements of the world in ‘Ender’s Game’ and, at the same time, ensured that we preserved our brand values. Ultimately, we were able to project our design philosophy perfectly onto the fictional world of the movie.”
The film is based on the best-selling, award-winning novel. Set in the near future, a hostile alien race has attacked Earth. In preparation for the next attack, humans begin training the best students to find their future leader. Ender Wiggin, a shy but strategically brilliant young man, is pulled out of his school to join the elite. Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters the training, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. He is soon ordained as the military’s next great hope and is charged to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
Audi hasn’t shared any spoilers of what technology features or capabilities the Fleet Shuttle Quattro will demonstrate in the film. The car will be represented totally as a digital prototype and has not been built as a physical model for filming. This is in contrast to Audi’s first movie car, the 2004 RSQ Concept used in the film “I, Robot” The RSQ was to predict a mid-engine 2 seat Audi model from the year 2035. You can see technical and stylistic elements on the RSQ which evolved for later use Audi’s production supercar, the R8. So although the Fleet Shuttle Quattro exists today only as pixels, it isn’t out the question that how it looks is peek at what Audi designers are considering for future models.
