The book publisher Penguin has decided to give some of their classic titles a makeover – specifically those that had a part in shaping the work of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Each of the five books from the ‘Legends from the Ancient North’ series will be given new designs, courtesy of artist Petra Borner.

It was these five books that are said to have influenced Tolkien, while he was working on ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’.

The Saga of the Volsungs’, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’, ‘The Wanderer: Elegies, Epics, Riddles’, ‘Beowulf’, and ‘The Elder Edda’ have been reworked graphically, and given an infusion of color, with each cover featuring a hero or creature mentioned within the book itself.

The publisher will be releasing the redesigned books in November later this year.
