Le FabShop and Renault partner up to install a printer in the back of an electric car.

Envisioning a future where service or delivery vehicles could come equipped with 3D printers in the trunk, cranking out spare parts and such on-the-go, a group in Paris transformed a normal electric car into a mobile 3D printer.

The invention is the result of a partnership between the 3D printing enthusiasts at Le FabShop and electric car manufacturer Renault. In the video below, the MakerBot Replicator 2 installed in the vehicle prints out a CAD model while driving around some cobblestoned (read: very bumpy) streets to show how the final product still turns out perfectly.
