The paper bill and vending machine relationship is dying. The future of vending machines will be smart.

With technology powered by SAP Hana, vending machines will have touchscreen interfaces, allow for consumers to scan their smartphones to vending machine sensors to order and pay, and have facial recognition capabilities – features like understanding emotions and potential consumers’ behaviors, that would allow the machines to offer personalized recommendations for drinks, promotions and food items.

The heart of the software works by having consumers download the SAP Hana app on their smartphone, which recognizes buyer trends and patterns, and then builds a profile based on purchase history. Consumers can also provide feedback on purchases, experience, and exchange gifts between app users.
