Philippe Starck designs a smart and stylish central heating accessory

A thermostat is rarely something to get excited about, but French designer Philippe Starck has created one that knows when to adjust the temperature based on your day-to-day activities. It was made for Netatmo, a company which creates products and apps to monitor weather and environmental conditions, and can be controlled straight from an app on your smartphone.

Apart from real-time temperature readings, the device can memorise routines and usage patterns, which means it will automatically adjust the temperature based on past behaviour. Say for example you always turn up the heat when you get back from work, the thermostat will have it done just as you step through the door.
