Artists’ video relates commonplace events to the math and science that make them happen.

Math is arguably one of the most detested subjects in school. After all, when will you ever need calculus?

But math is all around us. The creation of a snowflake, the formation of a storm, the flight of an airplane, and the operation of your computer, tablet, and smartphone are all explained through math and science.

To demonstrate this fact of life, artists Yann Pineill and Nicolas Lefaucheux created the video “The Beauty of Mathematics” to illuminate real-life events – including snowflake creation – and explain them through their formulas and scientific principles. While the principles in each situation may not be readily understood unless you’re a mathematician, the video does help bridge the gap to make the subject more accessible.
