Mieru Record is a contraption that combines sound and manga, feeding in cells from a comic strip to produce accompanying music.

Mieru Record with Otowa is a contraption that feeds a manga comic strip with punched holes through a traditional music box for it to “read” as musical notation. The end result is accompanying music for a user to listen to while they look through the book.

The project explores ways to combine sound and manga. The reader winds the device and controls the speed of the tune, as well as the speed at which the manga images pass through the music box. You can see Mieru Record with Otowa in action in the video below:
