Baggage Claim Doubles As A Prize-Giving Wheel Of Fortune

Keeping up with the holiday spirit, online retailer Zappos gave some lucky travelers arriving in Texas an unexpected surprise. The company turned a baggage carousel into a roulette-wheel with prize-winning slots, awarding people with gifts like Zappos gift certificates, North Face jackets, Jansport backpacks, UGG boots and a Kitchen-Aid mixer.

Prizes were selected based on whatever slot the suitcases landed on. Passengers with multiple pieces of luggage did not get a chance to cheat the system – a one-prize-per-winner limit was in order. Even with such a rule, people were walking away content and grateful for their winnings.

Zappos enjoys creating these out-of-the-box marketing campaigns because it is a great way for the company to “intercept people in their everyday lives and bring surprise and delight,” shared Tim Vaccarino, executive creative director of Mullen.

Mullen is an ad agency that has been working with Zappos on numerous projects, and is always on the lookout for new and fresh ideas. There is no guessing what the company might spin out in the future.
