In Brief

Your favorite tweets can now end up on a plaque, immortalized forever.

In today’s fast-paced, social media-driven world, those witty remarks you fit into 140 characters face the risk of being forgotten, victims of the endlessly-updating feed. Permanent140 is a service that combats the fleeting nature of online communication by creating lasting works of art out of your favorite tweets.

The online service allows users to upload custom tweets or choose from the gallery of ‘#PermanentTweets’ that other customers have created. The tweet is then laser etched onto a metal or wood plaque approximately 2.5 by 5.75 inches. When a previously existing plaque is purchased by another customer, the author receives 25 percent of the purchase price, which ranges from $20 to $33. Permanent140 is the latest example in a trend to transform online dialogue into analog mementos; PSFK recently covered Memeoirs, which generates personalized books from your Facebook messages, and Tx.to, which exalts humble SMS conversations by preserving them on scrolls of paper.
