Kinetica will change the way you approach boring spreadsheets.

Developed by researchers at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, Kinetica is an app that lets users touch, sift, and play with data on their iPads using their hands.

Kinetica lets users load any Excel XLS, CSV, and TSV table of data and visualize it in different ways by sifting through it with their fingers. The data turns into circles on the screen that people can pull and lay out to create charts and graphs.

The app includes tools for grouping, sizing, and coloring points to help the user understand the information presented by the data sets.According to the app's website, Kinetica started out as a research project that focused on figuring out ways to help people understand information more using tablet computers.
