When most of us think of meetings, we conjure up images of boardrooms, slideshows, and various other corporate cliches. The truth is that meetings can just as easily be impromptu gatherings between a handful of people in an unlikely location. A project commissioned by Kvadrat, and designed by Gonçalo Campos, aims to reflect that with a pop-up umbrella that provides just enough space for an unplanned meeting.

The inspiration for these portable roofs came from the gatherings that often occur at trade fairs around the world, and Milan in particular. It’s a commentary on the informal meetings that take place during these design weeks between people that have often traveled from all over the world to be in the same place.

Portuguese-born Campos prides himself on finding surprising solutions, and is known for a signature mix of humor and pragmatism. He often consults and collaborates with international brands to design furniture, accessories, and lighting.
