The Korean automaker showcased a series of innovative -- and amusing -- car concepts

Earlier this month, car enthusiasts of all ages were given a treat in Seoul. During a public showcase and mini-parade, teams of auto engineers revealed a series of vehicles that conjured sci-fi imagery ranging from Jetsons-sleek to Inspector Gadget-weird.

South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company held its 2014 R&D; IDEA Festival on October 7 at the company’s Namyang Technology Research Center in Seoul. Now in its fifth year, the festival is an internal competition for Hyundai engineers, meant to showcase future mobility concepts and “[nurture] new ideas for customers’ needs in the future.” The program also serves, Hyundai explains, to encourage its research and development employees “to express their creativity, and strengthen engineering competitiveness.”
