The collaborative project provides an immersive scarefest for headset users

Just in time for scare season, a new project takes a fans' choice Scariest Film award-winner into virtual reality. The movie, a gruesome spin on reality-bending drug use, can now bring viewers themselves even further down the rabbit hole with the use of a 3D-headset.

The Oculus Rift verson of Banshee Chapter, the 2013 directorial debut of Blair Erickson, is now available for free as a download for Macs through and the Oculus Rift developer site for second-generation development kits. Based loosely on H.P. Lovecraft's From Beyond and the 1986 film of the same title, the horror flick was adapted for virtual reality by Jamwix, a San Francisco firm seeking to build “powerful, engaging, and innovative new experiences for everyone.” Himself a co-founder of the studio, Erickson praised the project in a press release:
