'Stickboy,' which explores the inner life of a young boy transformed by bullying, is being promoted through a street art initiative

Stickboy is a new bullying-themed opera production that attempts to appeal to a younger audience by leveraging street artists to interpret their own inner bullies. Vancouver Opera, the second largest opera company in Canada, and marketing communications agency DDB Canada aim to revitalize opera with this revolutionary production and an innovative street art initiative. They have collaborated with four Vancouver street artists: Nick Gregson, Carson Ting, Ben Tour, and Ola Volo.

The inner life of a young boy transformed by bullying is at the heart of Stickboy, which has been composed by Neil Weisensel with libretto by world-renowned spoken-word artist Shane Koyczan. The visually innovative and musically memorable opera confronts the uncomfortable reality of a society struggling with its own fear and insecurity.
