Your Fridge, Dishwasher Could Soon Charge Portables Thanks to Energous, Haier
A partnership between the aforementioned brands may embed wireless chargers in your next major appliance
This story begins with the WattUp wireless router by Energous. Actually, it starts with large tangles of multiple charging cords in that one corner of your house. But the solution to that tangle begins with Energous. Their WattUp wireless router sends a power signal that remotely charges mobile devices in a 15-foot radius via radio transmissions.
For mobile devices equipped to receive charging radio frequency signals, the router's transmission waves add energy to the battery as if it were plugged in to a wall or computer. This is a convenient, though limited, solution because each new device in the charging radius reduces the speed of the charge, as does increasing distance between the device and the router. WattUp recommends multiple antennae creating overlapping circles for the best “charging ecosystem.”
