Help Defend (or Destroy) Middle-Earth in a New, Interactive ‘Hobbit’ Experience
In the collaborative online world, users can tour the Shire, solve riddles in Rivendell and feast on manflesh in battle
Fans of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” franchises now have one more method for getting their Tolkien fix until the final film is released. Thanks to three companies, the wonders of Middle Earth — as well as its fiercest battles — are now available for free online.
In celebration of the upcoming film “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” three companies partnered to launch “A Journey Through Middle-Earth,” an online, interactive digital experience. The project, a Chrome experiment which “aims to capture the richness and dynamism of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films,” is the final installment in a two-year collaboration between Google developers, filmmakers at Warner Brothers and a team from creative marketing agency North Kingdom.
