Interactive Christmas Installation Lets Visitors Decorate Through Smartphone Taps
Deck the Digital Crystal Tree with LED lights
As holiday cheer begins to spread and Christmas decorations come out of the attic, Fukuoka, Japan gears up for their city's annual tree decorating celebration. Created by digital art collective teamLab, this tree is anything but traditional.
The Crystal Tree is a hanging installation of LED lights that lets viewers participate in decorating in real time. Using the accompanying Canal mirai Christmas app, onlookers can help to adorn the Christmas tree in ornaments and unique light displays with just a few taps on their smartphone. The interactive, 3D tree uses 4D animation to produce the vibrant patterns and visuals.
