Social Media Followers Serve as Currency in SoHo Pop-Up Shop
Are you Instagram-famous? OnePiece offers discounts for every 500 followers across various platforms
If you have 40,000+ Instagram followers and are in the market for a winter onesie, you’re in luck this month. Retail brand OnePiece launched a first-of-its-kind social shopping experience in SoHo. At the east coast pop-up space, social media influencers exchange promotion for discounts. The #socialcurrency concept allows customers to connect their social media accounts and pay in-store according to their friend and fan following.
The OnePiece ambassador system, known as “PieceKeepers,” lets customers link their various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Vine, Pinterest, Youtube and LinkedIn to determine their degree of influence. For each 500 followers, the customer earns $1 towards their purchase for a maximum of $20. To earn the discount, they must upload and share an image in the New York location using the store’s hashtag. Instantaneously, the store’s number of impressions increase by hundreds and thousands at the simple tap of a ‘share.’
