Otherworldly watch made from over 500 jewels and custom-made components

We’ve already seen a watch inspired by kitchen timers from the 50’s this week, but now it’s time for a Swiss-made $230,000 watch inspired by a spaceship from a Japanese anime cartoon. The Horological Machine No. 6 (HM6), made by MB&F;, might be able to tell the time, but its creators say “that’s not the point.” It features 476 custom-made components, 68 jewels, and even a retractable shield – all of which you can see in much more detail below.

The watch displays hours and minutes on separate semi-spherical aluminum indicators, while the flying tourbillon in the center comes complete with a retractable shield. The three-dimensional horological engine developed exclusively for the watch by MB&F; and David Candaux Horlogerie Creative took more than three years to complete.
