Despite the discontinuation of FuelBand, a new patent from Nike provides clue into their role in the future of sportswear

Watching the patents being secured by the world’s leading companies can provide critical clues into our future. Earlier in December, we noted that Apple could be working towards creating a shatterproof phone that would move the needle on consumer expectations. In a similar vein, we recently found proof that Nike could be working to incorporate their Nike+ sensor into their sleeveless shirts for the purpose of tracking activity (heart rate and blood pressure in particular).

Earlier this year, we learned that sports apparel brand Adidas was working with Italian soccer team AC Milan through TechFit Elite, a sleeveless shirt that monitors vital stats. Their collaboration was highlighted as part of a short documentary that highlighted various directions in the future of textiles.
