The market for music accessories is already full of earphones and headphones with different designs and features, but it seems the search for the perfect listening gear is far from over with new designs coming out each year.

Grain Audio, Pennsylvania-based maker of wood-based speakers and earphones, has come out with its own version of headphones that provide the perfect balance of quality sound and beautiful design. Aside from creating a product that’s a balanced combination of function and design, Grain Audio also created a product that is made from eco-friendly materials and practices.

Grain Audio’s Over Ear Headphones (OEHP.01) feature solid wood ear cups that give the headphones an original look. The headphone enclosures are made of FSC-certified solid walnut with hand-applied oil finish, and the distinct grain patterns on the wood not only make the headphones look sleek and beautiful but unique as well. The headphones come with form-fitting ear cushions and a cushioned plastic headband to make them comfortable enough for listening to one’s favorite music for extended periods.

The headphones are not only designed to look good on anyone, but they are also designed to sound good. Wood is used in acoustic musical instruments because it makes them sound infinitely better and Grain Audio takes this fact to heart. The OEHP.01 is equipped with 2x40mm proprietary loudspeakers that feature Neodymium magnets and a CCAW voice coil – features that make the sound come out as natural as the artist intended.

The technical features of Grain Audio’s Over Ear Headphones also include a TPE-jacketed cable, and a jack and adapter. Each pair of OEHP.01 comes with an inline mic and remote, documentation and brand book, a soft carrying case, as well as OEHP earphones.

Grain Audio was founded by four friends with a shared passion for music and backgrounds in design, architecture, acoustics, and marketing. The group first launched a Kickstarter campaign for their wood speakers in 2013. The project was successfully funded and the company now has released four products: the Passive Bookshelf Speaker System, the Packable Wireless Speaker System, Wooden In-Ear Earphones, and the solid wood Over Ear Headphones. Naturally, all the company’s products are made with wood.

Grain Audio’s Over Ear Headphones are available for purchase for $199 on Grain Audio’s site and in selected retailers.
