Electronics Kit Wins Kids Over Cartoon Characters
Tomorrow's electrical engineers could very well get started with the child-friendly CHIP kit
Soldering kits for kids are almost as old as soldering, but most are bare-bones affairs with no real child appeal or extensive sets that can intimidate the first-time users they are supposed to attract. With more and more evidence pointing to the importance of S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education, this is a problem increasingly in need of a solution.
CHIP is an emerging Kickstarter that promises to provide the solution. A cutely-drawn robot pal that includes the components necessary to light a pair of LED eyes, CHIP plugs into a standard Arduino chip for experiments and projects in basic electrical engineering. He also comes with a custom “Pixel Power” base to plug into for projects tied to the character.
