Hyundai Santa Cruz is Swiss Army Knife for Urban Adventurers
Full-featured crossover illustrates the emerging distinction between vehicle design and styling
One of the most surprising reveals at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show came from Hyundai who managed to sneak a concept car past internet leaks. Particularly interesting though is that it was a totally new vehicle idea for the Hyundai brand, a crossover pickup truck. The Santa Cruz concept could be the first of a revived automotive category that formerly included the Subaru BRAT, VW Rabbit pickup and the Chevy El Camino, each out of production for a few decades.
Hyundai developed the Santa Cruz concept to target ‘Urban Adventurers,’ millennials who live an active lifestyle and need a right-sized vehicle that is able to be parked in the tight confines of city streets or multistory garages.
