Art project Skin Deep questions what (and who) defines our bodies

Skin Deep is a series of collaborative self-portraits by NYU Interactive Telecommunications Program graduate students Rosalie Yu & Alon Chitayat. The duo created 3D-scanned portraits of themselves, and then invited the public to draw on their 3D portraits, creating hundreds of new versions of themselves in the process.

Yu and Chitayat began the work by generating 3D scans of their bodies, which had two aspects – the mesh (which is the form of the body) and the texture (which is the skin). While the mesh remains the same, the texture can have endless permutations.
