Plant Friends provide owners with temperature, humidity, and soil moisture readings rather adorably

Created by designer Dickson Chow, Plant Friends is a plant environment monitoring system that takes real-time measurements of the soil moisture, temperature, and humidity of a given plant environment and alerts the user when the plants need to be watered.

The plant environment monitoring system is made up of two sub-systems: wireless, battery-operated sensor nodes and a base station. The sensor nodes are in the form of adorable, laser-cut bamboo characters—a bunny, a robot, and a dinosaur.

Each bamboo character houses a small circuit, including sensors and an LED light that serves as an indicator of low water levels, low battery power, and other types of functions. The bamboo characters are assigned to individual plants and they take soil moisture, temperature, and humidity readings for their assigned plants and send the information to the base station.
