Apple patent takes into account touchscreen gaming's limits

Apple has placed a patent forward for a home screen joystick that connects to iPhones and iPads for better gaming. This device is currently at the “what if” phase, and not yet on the path to production.

If built, the joystick would have two modes. In its “normal” mode, it consists of a home screen button just like the one you use to control your iGizmo normally. In “joystick” mode, a joystick like from your favorite gaming console pops up to allow more flexibility and control when playing app games on.
