The MoleScope app and device tandem turns a smartphone into a dermoscopic device

The Molescope device is a portable clip-on lens that allows phone cameras to take highly-detailed colored photos of skin irregularities. Using the photos, an accompanying app guides users on a self-assessment for skin cancer risks. In some regions, it is also possible to send images over a secure network to a doctor for a virtual check-up.

MoleScope, from Canadian startup MetaOptima, is an easy-to-use early diagnosis device for skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer that when treated early has a 98 percent chance of survival. Although susceptible to treatment, skin cancer can easily be ignored and can progress to fatal degree.
