An Up-Close Look at the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Design
Created by Brazilian design firm Chelles & Hayashi, the torch expands heavenward once it receives the flame
The design for the next Olympic torch has been revealed: Created by São Paulo-based design firm Chelles & Hayashi, Rio's version of the torch features the colors of the Brazilian flag and expands when it touches flame.
Gustavo Chelles, one of the designers, tells PSFK that he and his team were inspired by four factors: the Olympic spirit, the Brazilian landscape, and the diversity and energy of the nation's people:
Our concept is about keeping the role of the flame and building the association of this symbol with the Rio and Brazil. Its main message is: TRANSCEND, push boundaries, go further.
