Virtual Reality Invites You to Walk Inside Someone Else’s Memory
Multi-camera filming from 8i creates more intimate VR experiences that use reality as their template
Inside a small studio in Burbank, California, a petite blonde woman holding a fussing newborn shared a message to her daughter in the future. She has kind eyes, but sentimental moments make me uncomfortable, I found myself avoiding eye contact. This is a strange reaction because the woman in front of me was just a collection of pixels created using 8i’s 3D rendering technology.
The message from the woman and her baby was 3D rendered with inputs from a couple dozen off-the-shelf cameras. I watched through a VR headset.
