Ralph Lauren's PoloTech Shirt tracks the wearer's activities and vital workout stats in conjunction with an iPhone app

In a long-coming lead-up from the smart-everything craze, Ralph Lauren has finally introduced PoloTech apparel, a smart workout shirt that monitors the vital activity stats of the wearer in real time.

On August 20, Ralph Lauren unveiled the smart shirt at a preview event in New York City. PoloTech apparel is a collaboration between Ralph Lauren and OmSignal, a tech startup from Montreal. Ralph Lauren also revealed that the shirt will be sold for $295 each.

Why the hefty price tag? The PoloTech Shirt is not your usual shirt. There are silver fibers woven into the shirt that enable monitoring of heart rate, calories burned, steps taken, breathing depth and activity level of the wearer.
