Henry Hargreaves shows shocking sugar content from popular beverages in (de) hydrate series

Health experts continue to warn consumers about the sugar content of soda. Most only rely on the sugar content written on the label. So, artist and photographer Henry Hargreaves decided to conduct an experiment visualizing exactly how much sugar goes into popular beverages in the photo series (de) hydrate. Hint: It’s more than what you’ll get from an average lollipop.

“I have heard health professionals recently refer to soda as the cigarettes of our generation. I wanted to get my head around this and show what is in a soda drink once the water has been boiled away. I decided to take the remaining substance and pour into a lollipop mold as that’s what I feel you are essentially getting – a lollipop dressed up as soda…” explained Hargreaves.
