Return of the Super 8 Camera
Lumenati CS1 combines digital devices with retro camera
It was the camera that launched a thousand filmmakers, giving anyone the chance to make a movie. Kids like J.J. Abrams, James Cameron, Steven Soderbergh and more got their start with Super 8mm and went on to make their fortunes in Hollywood. Now Lumenati is bringing the Super 8 camera into the digital age with the CS1, a “cinematic smartcase” that turns an iPhone into a full-blown handheld movie camera.
Introduced by Kodak in 1965, the Super 8 was an affordable, easy-to-use motion picture camera that captured thousands of home movies and became a tool of choice for budding cinematographers. The film came in cartridges that popped into the side of the camera, making them simple to load and process.
