Solar-Powered Parka Built for UNESCO Site Keepers
Fashion designer Pauline van Dongen creates a protective outer coat that can charge phones through pocket-lined solar panels
Fashion designer Pauline van Dogen, known for integrating solar panels into clothing, has created a protective outer coat for Wadden Sea rangers that can charge smartphones. Designed with the Waddenvereniging (Dutch Wadden Sea Society), the Solar Parka will keep rangers comfortable and connected when exploring the nature reserve.
The Solar Parka is a coat that offers warmth to the wearer while also generating its own electricity. On the outside of the large hip pockets hangs a solar panel that can fully charge a phone in two hours. Meant to be used in the soggy conditions of a mudflat, the electronics are waterproof. The coat’s heavy recycled denim shields from the cold.
