John W. Rutland has teamed up with Philips Hue to demonstrate how to create chilling effects at home

In collaboration with Philips, cinematographer John W. Rutland has revealed some of the lighting techniques he implements to generate a sense of terror for viewers. Halloween enthusiasts can follow some of his tips and tricks to create chilling haunted house effects with the Philips Hue connected lighting system.

Rutland has used light to hide and reveal scary monsters, spirits and killers in films like Exists, Lovely Molly, and the upcoming Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. He said:

Cinematographers use every shade, color and intensity of light to create the nightmarish scenes fans know and love.
