VR and Drew Barrymore: The Perfect Combo for a Behind-The-Scenes View of an InStyle Cover Shoot
VR-only footage for the magazine's coming issue provides a 360-degree tour of the actress as she's readied for November's cover
InStyle magazine may have found a way to bring VR fashion-forward with VR-only bonus content for their November issue for this year.
The mag will reveal the photoshoot of actress Drew Barrymore, exploring the make-up and wardrobe used, and the process of taking the perfect cover photo. Barrymore will speak to the audience throughout the experience, giving some tips and acting as a guide as they go. Subscribers will need a Google Cardboard, or download a limited-edition Instyle viewer, for viewing purposes as well as the Jaunt VR Player app.
This is not the first time the fashion industry has incorporated VR into their offerings. Earlier this year in February Elle had a photoshoot in Paris where they captured all the models using 360-degree cameras which caught the entire show. Later the next month, they released the footage to VR devices for all viewers to enjoy and who wanted to take a closer look at the show. Elle‘s Canada shoot recently did what InStyle will do in November with a 3D breakdown of how they make their photoshoot. Dior did the same as well, highlighting the backstage progress of what was done on the road to putting together a photo spread.
The fashion industry is all about bringing out the new, so there’s little surprise that they have embraced such a visual, engaging medium to give their products an extra edge. Whether or not it’s enough to put VR in general in the consumer spotlight, we’ll have to wait and see.
Customers with a subscription to InStyle’s November subscription can expect the cardboard VR viewers to arrive with it. Others can pick up a copy at the newsstand, or check for updates on the magazine’s website.
