Toy-Inspired Glove Could Reduce Tremors from Parkinson’s
This wearable dampens severe hand tremors with a spinning top
The GyroGlove from startup GyroGear uses spinning discs, or gyroscopes, to reduce tremors in people afflicted with Parkinson’s and essential tremors. The startup compares the sensation of wearing the GyroGlove to submerging your hand in a thick syrup, allowing smooth motion yet resisting fine tremors.
To understand the technology, just imagine a childhood favorite: the spinning top. The rotating forces of the top attempt to stabilize it while in motion. This conservation of angular momentum (or the spinning) is transferred to the glove and the hand, stabilizing it.
