App takes different approach to dating, offering blurred-out photos and non-binary gender categories

The process of signing up for dating apps seems second nature to modern daters nowadays: you choose your gender, age, location before uploading your best photo and writing a clever statement. These apps often focus primarily on good looks—you choose whether to reach out to someone based on one photo. Siren wants to change that interaction in a few ways. For starters, the app takes a gender neutral approach to dating.

You can identify as male, female or a “nonbinary person.” You can also choose to date people who fall under these categories—along with people who identify as transgender.
