A team of robots will staff a telecommunications store in Tokyo this spring

SoftBank Corp will staff a cellphone store in Japan with a team of Pepper robots. The humanoid robots will be giving customers directions, offering advice, finalizing cellphone plans and signing contracts, and even engaging them in small talk. The robots will run a SoftBank store in Tokyo's Omotesando district from March 28 to April 3 (though, humans will be on hand to help).

According to The Japan Times, SoftBank CEO Ken Miyauchi called the event an “interesting experiment.” Five or six Pepper robots will make up the the fleet at the SoftBank store. Peppers can help explain cellphone options and attempt to complete sales. Humans will help the robots check IDs during contract signings.
