After abandoning its initial endeavors due to shaky payloads and hover failures in tricky weather, Google’s new patent details a “delivery receptacle” — basically a box on wheels — that coordinates with a drone to avoid keeping packages suspended in the air for longer than they need to. While the long-term dream obviously omits products from ever staying at ground level pre-delivery, the tech giant posits that this solution will tremendously quicken delivery speeds while preventing instances of ‘crash and burn’ UAVs until the technology has fully matured.
