Social media platform Facebook filed a patent last January to integrate ride sharing into event pages. In addition to the current options of ‘Going,’ ‘Interested,’ and ‘Not Going,’ the patent outlines the option to select Going and driving, or Going but not driving. Attendees who select Going and driving can input details such as how many seats are available, if they are just offering to their Facebook Friends, and what time they anticipate leaving. Facebook then pairs drivers and passengers based on personal details such as common “likes” and sends navigation details to guide drivers to pick up spots. This is part of a broader effort at Facebook to rethink how its event pages are used.
