Chainless Design Heralds IKEA’s First Step Into Cycling
Furniture giant offers a customizable and user-friendly bicycle that comes in flat-pack form
IKEA is heading to a new market: the cycling market. The Scandinavian furniture maker aims to provide a new spin on how bicycles are made, by offering a flat-pack bicycle that has a chainless feature. This award-winning bicycle is named the Sladda.
Sladda is one of the three products from IKEA that won The Red Dot Awards, one of the world’s biggest product design competition. It is made in partnership with Veryday design studio and its designers Oskar Juhlin, Kristian Eke and Jan Puranen.
In English, Sladda means to skid sideways, which probably hints at how different this bike’s design will be. So, what makes the Sladda so groundbreaking in the cycling industry?
