Digitized Identities Will Let Travelers Fly Paperless
Initiative creates mobile dashboard that can could render physical passports obsolete
Passports are ready to get a digital upgrade thanks to British passport manufacturer De La Rue.
The company is developing a technology to make paperless passports a reality, allowing people to confirm their identity and pass through immigration control using only their mobile device. Acting as a digital dashboard for ID verification, the software would allow government officials to record, validate, certify and issue documents to citizens. Given the rise of digitized travel documents including airline tickets and mobile check-in, re-imagining the physical passport for a mobile-first world only feels like a natural solution for more convenient travel.
