IKEA’s Virtual Kitchen Offers Supreme Customization
In a partnership with HTC Vive, the home furnishing brand is striking out into VR
Should the cabinets be white or wooden? How about the countertops? Decorating a kitchen can quickly turn into a headache-inducing activity, but IKEA has a solution. In order to help its customers visualize the end product of their imagination, the Swedish retailer launched a VR experience for HTC Vive in which users are teleported into a virtual kitchen where they can change colors of cabinets, drawers and countertops with just one click.
But that’s not all, the experience also lets them shrink themselves and explore the kitchen from a perspective of a 3.3 foot (100 cm) tall child. Or, enlarge themselves to see it from a perspective of a 6.4 feet (195 cm) tall adult. This features could help check kitchen’s usability and prevent potential accidents.
