Password-Free Wi-Fi Could Make Our Connected Homes More Secure
Small businesses, say bye to Wi-Fi leechers thanks to this wireless technology
As our environments become more connected, trivial things such an entering a password to gain access to Wi-Fi seem even more outdated. If a drone can follow us around, why can't our Internet connection?
Researchers from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab have a solution. Chronos, a new wireless system can locate Wi-Fi users within tens of a centimeter without relaying on external factors, making the need for inputting a password a thing of the past.
On the smaller scale, this means no more Wi-Fi leechers at your local coffee shop, since only customers in the store will be able to connect. But since the technology can figure our where people are located within a house or an office, down the line, we'll be also able to adjust temperature within the house or activate other connected devices simply by passing near them.
