Rum and coke, anyone? This brand is promoting a soda made to compliment cocktails

PepsiCo has launched 1893, a premium soda brand that takes cues from mixology and the rising interest in food culture.

Available in flavors Original Cola and Ginger Cola, and made with ingredients like kola nut extract, fair trade sugar, sparkling water and real ginger, the brand appeals to the source-conscious crowd and those looking for a more authentic feel.

The name refers to the date Pepsi founder Cale Bradham invented a predecessor of Pepsi known as ‘Brad’s Drink.' The brand is promoting this new product as a standalone beverage or a compliment to cocktails, and it arrives at a time when a growing number of alcoholic brands have their eyes on the soda market.
